I really need some help now. I have been going round and round all the different companies finding the perfect trip and then finding a problem with it.
I would like to do a long trip in Africa, like the ‘African Contrasts’ with Kumuka or ‘Africa All The Way’ with African Trails, but I keep finding very mixed opinions on the different companies.
Please tell me all about your experiences, good and bad. All advice will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Companies try to limit the impact or footprint on where they travel however is the presence of overland Trucks in some countries detrimental to the local environment. The fuel, food and water required to keep the trucks going is also an issue particular in areas where these items are in sort supply. Should overlanding companies still be running trucks? And of course you have to get to the start destination usually a long haul flight!
If you want to travel around New Zealand overland try out these guys escape rentals although it was chilly during winter it was worth it we had a great time. They gave us by mistake the wrong snow chains so check first - but refunded us the money without any problems - the designs on the vans are very cool.
Does any body has experiences traveling with Africa Travel Co http://www.africatravelco.com/index.php ?
I seem to remember it got mixed reviews in another travel forum but it’s been awhile since my last research. Their large max group size of 30 is a big turnoff for me but I’m not ruling them out yet until I research and hear about them more……
Hy, could any one tell me where can I find overland fairs, does it exits?
One of the reasons you travel with an overland company is because you are paying for the companies experience travelling in your selected area. So unless you are on a exploratory trip or party bus some up to date information would be very much appreciated. Silly things like were to do laundry and the local internet cafe become important details if you are travelling for extended periods of time.
Whilst more important details like when to visit certain locations like famous markets to experience them if full swing!
But the standard of details by overlanding companies seem to vary greatly. Should companies be upfront and say we will get you there, then it is down to you - manage expectations? What have been your experience, should travellers expect this level of detail! We already know that overlanding crew are not tour guides.
They do not seem to be the same as the many hop on hop buses which operate around New Zealand. But more traditional overlanding company, and by there own admission a relatively new company. If you have travelled with overlandnz we would love to hear your experiences.
I’m planning an overlanding trip, possibly up to 3 years nonstop, and I plan to do some photography. I don’t expect any company or group of individuals to alter their trip to give me extra time. I’m curious, what company (Dragoman?) has longer tours that spend more time in each location?
We have recently been made aware of Topdeck, who are kind of an overlanding company. If anyone has been on their trips please let us know your experience, or if you can shed more light on the company!
Thanks
