Week 1

South Africa, Botswana - Leaving Johannesburg we head up into Botswana and across to the delta to have a true wilderness experience amongst the wild animals and their habitat. From there we head up to the Chobe River for an afternoon boat cruise. It’s then to Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe for activity at every corner.
Week 2

Zambia, - To South Luangwa Valley then the shore of Lake Malawi next, to try your hand at Altitude and Freshwater Scuba Diving, horse riding and sailing. Up to Chitimba and the chance to hike Livingstonia.
Week 3

Tanzania - , then into Tanzania through the Baobab valley, and to the Indian Ocean at the African City of Dar es Salaam. From here you can head to the Spice Island of Zanzibar

“It was fantastic trip.It was also a new experience - I plan my next trip with African trails to West Africa.”

Due to heavy rains over a period of several days, the Cusco area and surrounding regions have experienced flooding, mudslides and bridge outages that have severely affected transportation in several sectors.

Services/travel affected include the trains to Machu Picchu, which are not currently running due to damage to the rails, hikes to Machu Picchu are also suspended or not advised.

Transportation to Lima via Abancay has been suspended, and some areas of the Sacred Valley (the road to Pisaq) are also unpassable though alternate routes have been opened.

Flooding had been reported on the road out of Cusco at Urcos heading towards the Puno direction. However, we´re told that travel to and from Puno and Arequipa is still possible.

Within the city of Cusco, services are in normal operation (with exception of flights suspended or delayed during heavy rains). Mudslides have been experienced in some of the steeper, surrounding hills.

Please note that flooding is common during the rainy season and that this adverse weather will not affect trips planned for later in the year. Source

The long-awaited new competitive train services to Machu Picchu have begun! Inca Rail, which has an office on Avenida el Sol runs trains daily from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes. Despite originally only offering a high-end luxury train service, Inca Rail are now offering budget options and have frequent special offers, visit their office (Avenida del Sol 611) or website for further details - http://www.incarail.com/. Andean Railways Corp, who also have an office on Avenida el Sol, hope to begin service in the very near future with a higher level of service at a comparable price to PeruRail. Andean Railways will have early trains from Ollantaytambo, leaving 7:30 a.m. with a return at 4:30 p.m., at an expected RT price of about $120; a midday service, leaving 12:36 p.m. with a return 10:30 a.m. next day would be somewhat less, around $100. The Andean Rail website is not as yet operational, but we will keep you updated as to any changes. Source: South American Explorers
