Category: Seek Advice | November 10, 2009 By Moderator

Some overlanding companies featured on the site get a bit of bashing but that is not to say that Overlanding cannot be a worthwhile and fantastic experience. So we thought we would kick off with some of the Good Stuff about Overlanding. On that note and remaining positive we will get the ball rolling with

Bush camping whilst overlanding - when done correctly it is truely amazing experience, whether that is on a deserted beach in South America or in the depths of the African plain there is always something to stimulate your senses.

  1. Totally agree guys.

I just did the Helsinki to Beijing run with Dragoman as the co-driver, awesome. 19 days straight bushcamping between Almaty Kazakhstan, and Lake Hovsgul, northern Mongolia. Washing in lakes and rivers and washing the dirt road dust out the hair!

Probelm Im seeing now is that there are fewer trips that have very much bushcamping which is a shame.

South America, East/Southern Africa….its either hotels or campsites with a token bushcamp thrown in here and there.

Obviously countries like Namibia I believe from my memory it is illegal to Bushcamp there (?), but why do you think there is so little bushcamping in these trips these days? Is it cos its not popular with the pax?

  2. Sorry , hope thats not a negative tone to stat with!

Just i personally think bushcamping is what overlanding is all about, and its a shame that alot of overland trips dont incorporate this.

Most stunning bushcamps? Fr me it has to be the Sahara desert, or perhaps Mongolia. Some really awesome spots to be found, the options are unlimited in such vast open spaces.

  3. totally agree with dave, problem is pax expect way too much these days, you don,t get adventurers anymore,it all looks lovely in a glossy magazine but when they get on the groung these package holiday tourists just don,t like it!!
