Intrepid Currency Surcharge

It seems the fluctuating exchange rates are having an impact at Intrepid, as they may introduce a currency surcharge. On their website they are encouraging people to pay up! “Avoid any surcharge by paying in full by 30 November, 2008.”



Heavy Overlanding Discounting

Up to 25% have been knocked of the price of many overlanding trips by Tucan and Dragoman at the moment. Maybe the credit crunch is having an affect on passenger numbers, however if you have the money it could be a good time to snap up a deal. Overlanding Discounts. Tucan update Guatemala City Airport

Tucan advise that the transfer shuttles to Antigua are not operating as of 30 September 2008. “The best alternative option presently available is to take a taxi which should cost about $25-$28.” Tucan
will advise on their website once the shuttle services have been restored.



Caribbean Takes a Battering

Dragoman & Overlanding

Well it looks like Dragoman is diversifying into other areas as it will soon provide non-truck based small group adventures to places such as Thailand, Vietnam and Costa Rica. Scheduled for their new brochure out in September which will also include shorter Adventure trips between 2-3 weeks.

Socotra Archipelago (Yemen)

With the new additions, the World Heritage List now has 878 sites (679 cultural, 174 natural and 25 mixed) in 145 countries.



Cuba Enters New Era

As Fidel Castro retires as president.? This is unlikely to change anything in the short term but change will no doubt be on its way. This will hopefully lead to the lifting off the US economic embargo which has crippled Cuba.



6.1 Earthquake Strikes Mexico

The quake hit the southern state of Chiapas on Friday, July 06, 2007 at 01:09:22 (UTC) - Coordinated Universal Time Thursday, July 05, 2007 at 08:09:22 PM local time at epicenter causing a widespread power cut.

The United States Geological Survey says the epicentre was around 40 km (25 miles) from the state capital, Tuxtla Gutierrez.

Mexican television said no damage or injuries had initially been reported.
