Tibet closed or opened?

Category: Asia, Dragoman | Apr 26th, 2008 By Editor

Chinese media had reported that Tibet would reopen to foreign tourists from May 1 2008 though officials have not confirmed this and a U.S.-based rights group says Beijing does not plan to allow foreigners in until after this August’s Olympics. Already some overland companies such as Dragoman have re-directed relevant tours.

  1. Tibet has been reopened to foreign tourists well that is the current statement by Chinese state media. 25th June 2008. We are unaware if overland companies will risk traveling through Tibet until after the Olympics. Please contact your tour operator for details.

  2. It appears there are still problems with visas to go to Tibet.

keadventure report that very limited visas have been issued and none to anyone entering from Nepal. `”Presently it looks unlikely that the Chinese will issue Tibet visas from Kathmandu until after the Para-Olympics finish in late September. Sadly, we have no alternative but to cancel all our autumn trips to Tibet but plan to run all our trips in Spring 09.”
